Hi, hello, I need help about my 20th fret width I'm building 34" electric bass with Precision Bass pickup neck through body, 80%done, but, when I measured nut width 42mm and ![]() ![]() ![]() What you think? about 20th fret width just 52mm, is that too narrow? what should I do? I need your suggestion, thank you so much herry tze ![]() |

Well, without knowing the string spread at the saddle, the number is somewhat irrelevant .... your saddle width, and 12th fret fingerboard width need to be close, the fingerboard could be smaller by a couple mm (mine usually are on a SS) .. does the bridge you plan to use feature adjustable string spacing ?? - some bass bridges do ... |

A width of 52mm seems a little bit slim. You may be able to add some binding to the fingerboard to gain some width. If you do add binding. In order to keep the proper taper of the fingerboard you may have to shave a little from the nut end of the board. If you use it the way it is the bridge will need to be adjustable or maybe 4 individuals would work. The standard spacing for a bass bridge is about 60mm. |
